About TecAlliance

The Brief

After initially partnering with Mer on a project at their Cologne site in 2022, TecAlliance then looked to expand the charging infrastructure to a second facility in Weikersheim. With their ambitious sustainability goals, TecAlliance needed a charging solution that would seamlessly integrate with its existing energy systems. The company wanted a genuine CO2-neutral solution, avoiding greenwashing and maximising energy efficiency.

Mer offered a solution that was a versatile, all-encompassing option for fleet operations.

The Solution

Mer proposed a holistic charging solution, with charge points at the company location and at drivers’ homes. This plan provided a versatile, all-encompassing option for fleet operations. 26 charging points were installed at the Cologne site.

“We were able to compare the offers of various charging providers in a tender. Mer not only submitted a very good offer financially but also impressed us conceptually with its flexible all-inclusive solution for fleets.

Mer offered us an all-inclusive charging solution that takes a lot of pressure off us as a company. The product enables charging on site, in public and at the driver’s home. Charging at home is conveniently smart: We don’t have to worry about billing or maintaining the wallboxes. Mer takes care of everything. That’s a huge advantage for us as a company. We then implemented our first joint project with Mer in Cologne in 2022” – Dimitri Boger, TecAlliance – Lead Facility Management & Energy

In 2023, the expansion of the charging infrastructure at the high-energy consumption facility in Weikersheim, was again carried out by Mer. This project required the integration of 25 charging points on site into TecAlliance’s own PV system, which is installed on the parking lot roofs, as well as its own battery storage system.

“We wanted a genuine CO2-neutral solution and not greenwashing with certificates.”

Dimitri Boger, TecAlliance

“Weikersheim is our own company property, a building that is very energy-intensive due to the large number of server rooms, among other things. We therefore considered an energy solution that would have a positive impact on our overall energy consumption and our CO2 footprint. We wanted a genuine CO2-neutral solution and not greenwashing with certificates. Our energy solution also has a very positive economic impact: the entire system will have paid for itself in less than 10 years. This will save us around 80 percent of our current energy costs.

Our PV system supplies 202 KWh, the battery storage system is designed for 512 KWh. Incidentally, the storage system is equipped with former electric car batteries. We even still have racks available to further increase the capacity in the future. Both our building and the charging park with 25 charging points are integrated into the overall system. This was a challenge due to the size of the sub-distribution boards and the integration of load management. The PV system and battery storage were installed by a partner company (ACCS Power), not by Mer itself. The collaboration was very customer and solution-oriented to implement all the necessary interfaces.” – Dimitri Boger, TecAlliance
